Cleaning your iPad should be simple. You do need to keep in mind that this is a touch-screen you are dealing with so care must be taken not to damage the oleophobic coating that makes that possible. A little extra care, especially if you are not using a screen protector, will prolong the life of your screen and iPad.
Apple tells us (in the iPad 2 User Guide):
To clean iPad, unplug all cables and turn off iPad (press and hold the Sleep/ Wake button, then slide the onscreen slider). Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. [...]
