...as he teaches your child their basics skills!
I had a reader contact me to ask what we thought of the new Mr. Bumblebee Learning app so we set out to see for ourselves! Come see what’s inside as we take you through a virtual walk-through:
As you can see the app teaches your child colors, counting to 10 and basic shapes. As kids play with the app they answer questions, accumulating points (check marks) as they go. Incorrect answers are dealt with in a non-threatening way and as they gather more and more correct answers they get more praise as the bee lights up more petals of the flower. Your child learns to listen, count and answer. If they forget or need a question repeated tapping on the speaker prompts the narrator to ask it again. There is no timer so your child can take as long as they need to answer each question. The app offers your children five games: identifying flower colors, counting bees, finding the correct number of bees, shape identification, and (teaching them abstract-logical thinking and decision making) color and shape identification.
We like that the parents area, where you will find credits as well as social network icons and email support, guarded by three math questions. You must correctly answer to enter the area. The three math problems differ each time you attempt to enter for added security. Children do not need to have access to social networks and we commend Reflare for making outside links totally inaccessible to them.
The Mr. Bumblebee Learning app is geared to the younger set, the developers recommendation is for 2 to 6 year olds, however we think that more realistically your 2 through 4 year olds will enjoy playing with the app as they work on their basics. These are skills that, at least in the United States, need to be mastered before attending Kindergarten, so except in special circumstances we feel that it best utilized with preschoolers.
Mr. Bumblebee is full of lively music (that adults can control), fun illustrations and simple, intuitive touch control. Each game is simple in concept and easy for your child to comprehend; no directions necessary. This is a great little app for children to teach them their shapes, colors, and counting. Children can have fun while their parents rest assured that their child is playing in a safe environment with all outside links safely tucked away from view.
So if you have a two, three or four-year old that needs to learn their basic counting, color and shape recognition skills they will have fun playing, and learning, with Mr. Bumblebee. Since it is a universal app, playable on your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch you can pay for it once and download it on all your family’s iDevices. We think it’s a bargain at the price!
p.s. does YOUR pre-schooler have a favorite basic skills app to play with? Do you have one that you’ve been itching to try but would like to see it reviewed? Do what Ron did and ask! We love hearing from you here AND on our Facebook page!
