Portegno Apps, who bring you their monthly KidsMag magazine app for kids on your iPad, have just published a special Halloween edition! Their magazine, geared to children three and up, takes a Halloween twist and has 15 pages of holiday fun! Your kids are sure to find lots of activities they like and a shake of your iPad will give them more on many pages… no real magazine will do that!

KidsMag reminds me a lot of Highlights for Children but with a digital twist! All the educational benefits with a ton of interactive fun thrown in. Stay with us “after the break” to find out more about this app for iPads.

First off I thought I would give you a quick glimpse of their monthly magazines:

The only part of the KidsMag Halloween Special Edition we didn’t like is how they have set up the story. It is contained in frames that your child taps on to follow the story and hear it read out loud. We felt there are way too many frames on each page, with no way for a young child to know which frame comes next in the story. We would love to see fewer frames on each page, perhaps having the active frame grow larger or glow so that the kids know which is being narrated. It was also noted that it would be nice if the text also highlighted when read to foster early word association.

If you’ve been meaning to try out the monthly KidsMag iPad magazine but haven’t because of its cost this is a great time to check out the quality of the app. It only has half the number of pages as the regular editions but then again its only half the cost!

We recommend you add the KidsMag Halloween edition to your iPad to see if its something you might want to look into for your children on a regular basis. I am sure they will enjoy it and it’s the perfect opportunity for you to test them out.
