... an Apps for iPads Review!
Hi! Welcome to the first in a series of video-reviews that all showcase Oceanhouse Media “omBooks!” That’s their equivalent of what the rest of the world calls an eBook.
As we progress through this week, video-reviewing a new omBook each day,
you will quickly come to identify their books as possessing quality, great illustrations, nice interactivity that does not take away from the book itself, and very professional narration.
We start off today with “Five Little Monkeys With Nothing To Do.” This cutely illustrated app plays off of the rhyme we all grew up with: Five little monkeys, jumping on the bed…one fell off and bumped his head… called for the doctor and the doctor said… NO more monkeys jumping on the bed! I bet you can even remember the hand gestures you did while singing it!
These five little monkeys are BORED! They make the mistake, as all small children do at least once in their life, of telling mama they are bored and of course mama find ALL sorts of things for the monkeys to do! We aren’t going to give away the plot of the story, but stick with us “after the break” for our exclusive video-review and the rest of our story!
Five Little Monkeys With Nothing to Do is charming but it is also a great tool for teaching children to read. The storyline captivates them and each word of the tale is highlighted as the narrator reads the story so they become adept at oral and written word association. They can easily have a word repeated, as well as the entire paragraph. This comes in handy particularly when the child has elected to “Read it Myself.” If any word stumps them they simply tap on it to hear it read…no more frustration! They can also hear how the entire paragraph or sentence should be read to that it flows into a thought.
There is just enough interactivity throughout the book to make it interesting without taking away from the story itself. The sound effects are delightful too. All-in-all this omBook takes the original printed or Kindle book and makes it just that much better to entice and enthrall our kids!
Every one of the Oceanhouse Media books offers:
