Dr. Seuss published 49 children’s books, the last of which was “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” With the help of Oceanhouse Media this nonsensical book has been transformed into an interactive iPad app that appeals to kids of all ages.

Full of good wishes and sage advice, this silly tale chronicles a cheerful little guy in a yellow jumpsuit as he makes his way in the world. He travels through a wide variety of colorful landscapes, cities, and sticky situations – some exhilarating, some depressing, some a little frightening.

One moment our hero is riding high on an elephant’s back with a triumphant banner flapping overhead. The next thing you know, he’s rowing a tiny rowboat through a black lagoon full of howling, long-necked Hakken-Kraks. But in the end our hero faces up to each challenge; his success in life is “98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed”!

The only thing we missed and really wished this book had, is the ability to tap on each individual word to hear it read by the narrator. This feature is available in most Oceanhouse Media’s omBooks and aids early readers when stumped by a word as they “Read it Myself.” I hope they consider adding that function in future updates. The child can have an entire sentence or paragraph read to them in that mode, just not an individual word.

Dr. Seuss books have entertained many generations and now, with the magic of the iPad, it appeals to a new one; enticing them to read.
